Happy Father’s Day

Today is Fathers Day and today is your day! You are loved and appreciated and hearing a few accolades of how great you are today.

We all have our own memories of our fathers and grandfathers that I wish we all could just sit and listen to. It is the stories or sayings that seem to stay with us when we share our memories of these people to others. When I went to the Connorsville United Methodist Church in Connorsville, Wisconsin and older gentlemen  used to tell a joke on Sunday mornings. It help to give me as a teenager the confirmation that church can be fun as well as inspirational.

  • Proverbs 17:22
    • A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
  • Psalms 126:2

    • Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
  • Job 8:21
    • He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting.

Let me share a couple of cute stories to lighten your heart today.

An Irishman in a wheel chair entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Irishman looked across the restaurant and asked, “Is that Jesus sitting over there?” The waitress nodded “yes,” so the Irishman told her to give Jesus a cup of coffee on him.  The next patron to come in was an Englishman with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked,”Is that Jesus over there?” The waitress nodded again, so the Englishman said to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, too.  The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Redneck on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, “Hey there sweet thang, how’s about gettin’ me a cold glass of RC!” He too, looked across the restaurant and asked, “Is that God’s boy over there?” The waitress nodded again, so the Redneck said to give Jesus a cold glass of RC, too.  As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Irishman, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Irishman felt the strength come back into his legs, got up and danced a jig out the door.  Jesus also passed by the Englishman, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Englishman felt his back straightening up, and he raised up his hands, praised the Lord and did a series of back flips out the door.  Then Jesus walked towards the Redneck. The Redneck jumped up and yelled, “Hey, man, don’t touch me…… I’m drawin’  disability!!!!!”

Let’s look at some examples from church signs that make us laugh.

  • You are not too bad to come in. You’re not too good to stay out.
  • Try Jesus. If you don’t like Him, the devil will always take you back.
  • Aspire to inspire before you expire
  • Staying in bed –shouting , oh God! Does not constitute going to church
  • God does not believe in atheists, therefore atheists do not exist.
  • Forgive your enemies- it messes with their heads
  • Read the bible – it will be scare the hell out of you
  • And the best one is – Stop, drop and roll won’t work in hell- God

The Cowboy at the Pearly Gate

A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. ‘Have you ever done anything of particular merit?’ St. Peter asked.

‘Well, I can think of one thing,’ the cowboy offered.

‘On a trip to the Black Hills out in  South Dakota , I came upon a gang of bikers, who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn’t listen. So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face … Kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground.. I yelled, ‘Now, back off or I’ll kick the s— out of all of you!’

St. Peter was impressed, ‘When did this happen?’

‘Couple of minutes ago.’

Today is your day Men! Enjoy it and tell a story or two. You are so special and we appreciate all you do each day.

Faith is

This statement is quite profound. We know that God can do all things but there is a difference when we believe he WILL do something. It is knowing that we can trust Him to help us through the day to help prepare us for the next day or what is coming ahead of us. He is the controller of our lives if we let him. Letting down the walls of free will and allowing God to lead us is a step of faith. It can be scary but He will not let you down. He has a beautiful plan for your life if you just let Him show you.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for this day and each day you give us. Show me that I can trust you to help break down the barriers of free will that I have. I am frightened Lord but I will let my guard down each day moving forward with your help. I know you have a beautiful plan for me if I just move out of the way. I love you and trust you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Kindness Spreads

Driving to work Susie had already had quite the morning. Her alarm clock did not go off and she woke  up 30 minutes late, no time for a shower but wash up and put her hair in a bun. She had to dress for work as a receptionist and run out the door with NO COFFEE! Traffic was heavy and she was still running late but she knew if she did not have coffee her day would not be good at all.

She drove to the nearest fast food drive through and ordered coffee. The person asked if she wanted cream and sugar, which she replied “yes please” through gritted teeth. When she drove up to the window to pay a smiling face greeted her and said “Good morning! How are you today?” Susie wanted to scream the answer back but instead by instinct said “Good thank you”. A little surprised at her own response her heart started to soften. She pulled to the next window and her coffee was handed to her with another “Good morning! Enjoy your day!”

Susie pulled away feeling a little uplifted as she drove drinking her coffee; she felt a little uplifted but was still running late! Into the parking lot and of course no spot close to the door. She finally parked at the farthest end of the lot, jumped out the door and almost ran toward the door. Another woman who parked close by also looked like she had a long morning. The two woman walked(fast) into work together sharing their morning and started to laugh at themselves. A “hang in there and have a good day” was said as the two departed and Susie looked at the clock. Four minutes late, not bad considering her morning.

She smiled as she clocked in and began her work. Her boss came in and said “crazy morning Susie” with a smile and she knew her day would be better. Her first customer presented to her desk and she politely said “Good morning” with a smile on her face and she meant it.

Your smile and laughter can help uplift another person at any time and it does not cost a thing. You never know what is happening in another persons life and sometimes all they need is a kind smile and a “Good morning”.

How Do I Find the Time

Taking time to be with God does not need to take a long time out of your day. Any time with God is better than no time. Keep a few devotional books in by your desk, bed, bathroom (He will not mind), wherever you frequently have a moment to pause from your busy day. Open it and read a couple lines to start with. Just a little something to keep you on track.  Read the devotional clip that shows up on your Facebook page. It only takes a moment to remind you that God is there for you and all of us. God bless you!

Keeping the Faith

Many times in our life we struggle with what we are striving to achieve. Sometimes when you are on the brink of giving up, all you need to do is take one more step and you have arrived. It is always darkest before the dawn they say. God is with you in your darkest hour to pull you through. Remember that you will not be given more than you can handle and that God had a great plan for you. Sometimes the struggle is to help you grow to be ready for more blessings later on. Hold on to your faith! God loves you. Fall to your knees and pray for strength. God bless you!

God Bless the Cheerful Giver

I am starting this page because I feel a deep yearning to help others and feel a lot of other people feel the same way. There are numerous places that will accept your money but my goal is to give what you have, make, or can buy to a worthy cause. We all run across ‘good deals’ or have talents but do not know who to help. There are so many people who are in need or fall through the cracks. My goal is to provide you with the opportunity to help others both here and abroad. God bless the cheerful giver!
